Read my Sweat With Kayla app review below to learn why I regret purchasing the latest Kayla Itsines App.
If you owned an old Cuisinart and they released a brand-new version that promised to do everything your model does plus a lot more, you’d probably want to get the new one.
But what would your reaction be when you opened the new Cuisinart – and discovered that it was exactly the same as your old one, just in a different package?
You’d probably be very unhappy, right?
Now, what if you owned the mega-hit Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide (BBG) workout and exercise program, and she released a brand-new version that promised to do everything your program does plus a lot more?
Welcome to the Sweat With Kayla app – the exact same thing as Kayla’s successful BBG ebooks except that you get it on a mobile APP instead of in a PDF ebook, and you have to pay a lot more for it.
And welcome to my Sweat With Kayla review.
I may have already given you enough information to know all you need to know about the Kayla Itsines app. But if you’re wondering why I sound a little pissed off at Kayla, I’ve got a lot to tell you.
If you’re new to her and the Bikini Body Guide, I don’t want you to be lost when I refer to them in this review. So here’s the quick story.
Kayla Itsines started out a fitness trainer in Australia when she was still in her teens, built a big clientele and created her own set of workouts for clients. She combined that with a lot of research and tinkering to develop the Bikini Body Guide, a program of cardio and strength workouts that can be done in thirty minutes a day.
It blew up on social media and websites, she became a superstar and a fitness guru, and her BBG e-books (she started with a 12 week program, came out with a second one for weeks 13-24 called the BBG 2.0, and also released a nutrition guide with recipes) became a worldwide phenomenon.
The whole thing sounds great, and to be honest, way overdue.
The original BBG workout eBooks has sold millions of copies as a downloadable e-book, because it’s a terrific way to drop weight and reshape your body. The whole “Bikini Body” thing isn’t just marketing fluff. I know, because I bought one of the first copies when she released it in mid 2013. And after doing the workouts and following the nutrition advice and recipes in the accompanying H.E.L.P. nutrition e-book, I went to the beach in a bikini for the first time in years, and I was proud of what I looked like.
In December 2015, Kayla Itsines released the mobile APP version of her BBG e-book. It works with Android and iOS, it’s a simple download, and you can just put next to you on a chair or on the floor while you do your workouts, anywhere in the world. It shows you that day’s exercises, gives you that day’s menus, and lets you build a bikini body without any hassle.
That’s the pitch, and there’s more. 'She tells you that you don’t just get the BBG 1.0 and BBG 2.0 in her App, you also get a brand new BBG 3.0 that’s never been released anywhere before, plus a bunch of special features like progress tracking and personal achievement awards.
What is the Sweat With Kayla cost? $19.99 per month for a subscription that automatically renews, or if you want to join for a three-month membership to save five bucks, $54.99 with automatic renewal.
If you want to compare that with the price of the original BBG ebooks, you can get the Bikini Body Guide 1.0 in a package with the nutrition guide for about $29.99 (one-time payment), and the BBG 2.0 costs another $19.99 or so at her discount site.
So here’s a recap: With Kayla Itsines' latest app, you get all the workouts in the BBG 1.0 and BBG 2.0 plus the new BBG 3.0 and extra features, it’s totally convenient, and it looks cheaper than the downloadable e-book.
Sounds like a deal, right? However, keep reading for the real scoop.
There have been a lot of positive reviews praising how easy it to use and how cheap it is, and even though it’s a new product there are all kinds of testimonials about amazing Sweat With Kayla results. It’s easy to believe that people can get a great new body with her latest fitness app, because her methods do work.
However, I don’t know how easy it is to believe that people had those results just a few weeks after the app came out. But that’s another story; it’s up to you whether you want to believe each Kayla Itsines App review.
Me? I’m not pissed off about somebody else’s review, whether it’s truthful, exaggerated or just plain wrong. I’m annoyed with Kayla because as great as her BBG e-books is;
I think she’s gone too far in her effort to make money with it.
And as someone who has used and totally believes in the Bikini Body Guide and her methods (and has recommended them to friends), I find that very discouraging.
I’m going to go through all of the supposed advantages of the app one by one, so you can see why I’m so disappointed in Kayla’s new fitness app.
That’s completely true. But remember the Cuisinart example I gave at the start? The BBG 1.0 and BBG 2.0 hasn’t changed one bit in the Kayla Itsines app. There are no video instructions or examples, no videos showing the right and wrong way to do each exercise, nothing.
FACT: She used the same exact picture demonstrations from her original BBG e-books.
If you don’t already own the Bikini Body Guide e-books, that’s not a huge deal. But if like me and millions of other people, you’ve already spent a lot of money on the Bikini Body Guide e-books. You don’t get a price break for being given the same information a second time. You’re paying for the exact same Kayla Itsines workout guides you already own.
You might think that’s not a huge deal, until you read this:
"As soon as you stop paying the subscription for the app access, you have nothing to show for your payments. There’s no more app access to the workouts you’ve already done, there’s no Sweat With Kayla PDF file you can save. You completely lose everything you have paid and subscribed for."
When you buy Kayla's BBG e-books, you own it forever. You can even leave it to someone in your will, if you want. But the Sweat With Kayla Workouts and H.E.L.P. Diet info you’ve paid for on the app disappears once you stop subscribing to it. I don’t think that’s fair.
Well, that’s sort of true. The app is the only way you can get the BBG 3.0, which is a great selling point. What is BBG 3.0? Kayla claims that there are new workouts for the experienced users in BBG 3.0. Here's the problem:
FACT: The BBG 3.0 is basically just the same exercises that are in the BBG 1.0 and BBG 2.0, just in a different order. You don't get any new workout. You don't get any valuable extras.
So you do get a new program when you subscribe to the app, but you don’t get any new material. It’s kind of like Cuisinart saying “With our old model you get a standard blade and a slicing disk – but with our new model you get a slicing disk and a standard blade!”
To me, getting the same stuff in a different order isn’t getting extra value. And as I’ve said, everything goes away when you stop your app membership, so even if you see some value in the BBG 3.0, you don’t get it for long.
What about the so-called extras? You get a 'water tracker' and 'track your progress' section. The way you “track your progress” with the app is to take pictures of yourself and save them. The "water tracker" helps you log how many glasses of water you drink.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t need a $19.99 per month app to do that.
Tracking my water intake and saving my progress pictures is not worth $19.99. The personal achievement awards are nothing more than a digital “slap on the back.” And the others are similarly useless, in my opinion. In marketing, they call that “perceived value.” I call it fluff.
That's definitely true. However, I think she forgot that her original Bikini Body Guide e-books are in digital format e-books. Therefore, her e-books are accessible on smartphones (iOS and Android), tablets and you can print them as well.
FACT: The APP doesn't make it more convenient than her BBG e-books.
And don't forget that once you’ve stopped your APP membership, there’s nothing to see on your phone anymore because you don’t get to keep the material. It’s not convenient to have your phone right next to you if the BBG material on the phone doesn’t exist anymore.
That seems true on its surface, but it’s definitely false when you look more deeply.
Just to recap, the Sweat With Kayla cost is about $19.99 per month ($54.99 if you subscribe to the three-month plan). There is no Sweat With Kayla promo code or discount even if you subscribe to the app annually.
Her original Bikini Body Guide 1.0 and 2.0, and H.E.L.P. Diet e-books, when you buy them in a package through her discount site, cost only $39.97 (one-time payment). You can get her complete e-books which cost only $39.97 from here.
FACT: Kayla Itsines original BBG e-book is much more reasonable and definitely cheaper.
If you think about it, $39.99 wouldn’t even get you through two months’ worth of the first BBG workout program on the app. You will need to subscribe to the app for 3 months to complete BBG 1.0, another 3 months to complete BBG 2.0 and so on. Do you think it's really reasonable like what she claims?
So do you still think her latest mobile fitness app is a great deal?
And do you understand why I was so disappointed when Kayla released her app in this form, and at this price?
The Bikini Body Guide changed my life and I believe in it 100%. I believe in Kayla and her BBG workout methods too. I think every woman who needs help losing weight or wants to regain the bikini body she once had should buy Kayla's BBG ebooks. If you have not read my original review on her Bikini Body Guide program and how it helped me, you should read it here.
I just can’t see anyone paying hundreds of dollars for temporary ownership of something you can buy for less than $40. Why pay so much for her app, when you can get the same workout and diet with her BBG e-books for only $39.97 at www.bbg-discount.com ? I want everyone to realize it.
And I also want Kayla to realize that I am not the only one who is disappointed. If you didn't know, there are many BBG users who are disappointed. You can read their reviews Kayla's app here, here and here.
I tried to make this all easy to understand, but if you just want the summary of Kayla Itsines App vs BBG ebooks :
Kayla Itsines E-books
Sweat With Kayla App
Lifetime ownership of all material, easy to download and use with no recurring charges to be cancelled, e-books can be taken anywhere just like the phone app, amazing results proven by many women who’ve purchased the BBG e-books, extremely inexpensive to purchase from Kayla's discount site.
Convenient to take anywhere, easy to download and use, BBG 3.0 guide, results are great if you do the program as described.
Have to choose your own exercises to recycle if you want to recreate the BBG 3.0 workout.
You lose all access to the workouts when you stop paying, cancelling recurring membership can be difficult, BBG 3.0 is just recycled exercises from BBG and BBG 2.0, no instructional videos or other multi-media content, you’re paying twice for same information if you already bought the BBG e-books, much more expensive than BBG/BBG 2.0/H.E.L.P. e-books package at www.bbg-discount.com .
One-time payment of $39.97 at www.bbg-discount.com for whole package of BBG 1.0, BBG 2.0 and Diet Guide.
$19.97 per month. You will need at least 6 months to complete BBG 1.0 and BBG 2.0. $19.97 x 6 months = $119.82
My summary of the summary? Forget about the Sweat With Kayla app. Buy Kayla Itsines original BBG e-books for only $39.97 from her discount site. You won’t regret it.
